M.F.G.#5/Magnasun Park, Seattle

Saturday we headed to Magnasun Park in the Sandpoint neighborhood of Seattle for race #4 of the M.F.G. series. A great venue on the shore of Lake Washington with mellow temperatures and fairly sunny skies. The course was fast grass, fast pavement, fast gravel, and even a fast mud section. Pure "roadie" inspired, again.
Elite Women, Kristi Berg and Melanie Lewis toed the line at 11:15. The race came down to the final lap when the race leader crashed and suffered some chain problems, allowing Lewis and Cuccina Fresca's Jessica Cutler to race for the win with 1/3 of a lap remaining. Lewis was nipped at the line, and had to settle for another solid 2nd place, just missing the win. Berg came in a moment later in 5th place.
In the Men's elite race, Cycle U - PopCap's Evan Renwick continued to improve on his fitness and had a good ride to come in a respectable 11th place.
The other race taking place at the same time was the Masters 1-2 race that included Sean Kelsey and Chad Berg with Kelsey sitting in 1st place overall for the series. The plan was for Sean to go out fast and hard from the beginning and for Berg to keep an eye on Haagens Berman rider Rich McClung, who was sitting in 2nd place overall with a very narrow margin, and attempt to make his moving up through the field a little challenging. Unfortunately, both Berg and Kelsey were not having a great day and McClung was. Berg quickly fell back and finished in 13th with Kelsey dropping back to 8th on the day. Kelsey lost the series lead but wasn't too visibly frustrated and was already looking towards the next days race - SCX #4 in Enumclaw.
